Gerry Belanger

Gerry Belanger I joined the Royal Canadian Legion in 1978 with my father as my sponsor. Two years later, in 1980, the membership elected me as 2nd Vice-President. This was the first time an Associate member held a Vice-President position. Over the course of many years, I have held many positions of the Executive. In 1989, the membership elected me as President, a position I held from 1989-1991 and again in 2003-2004.

I have worked in the Education field for over 20 years and currently am the accountant for RiverEast Transcona School Division in Winnipeg.

Lyn Belanger

Navy League

Lyn Belanger I have been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 21 years now. I am very proud to be your Second Vice President in 2007. I have also served for four years on the executive committee from 2002 to 2005 holding many chairs in that time frame.

I really grew up in the Legion, as my father was very involved, he was a Past President of West Kildonan Legion, Branch #30. Through my dad, I learned how important it is to take care of our Vets and their families. Our social lives always seemed to centre around the Legion, so it was just natural for me to become a member when I became an adult. Continuing with tradition, I was very proud when my son was initiated and became a member of this great organization.

I am very proud of my association with Selkirk Legion – as it brings so much to our community. Branch 42 is so lucky to have a strong membership and volunteer base. Once again, in my adult life I am finding that my social life is centred around the Legion, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Dave McMillan

Ways and Means

Dave McMillan My first personal contact with anything military was a 5 year stint as a member of # 1181 Chapleau High School Army Cadet Corps in the mid 50’s where, upon graduation, I had attained the rank of Company Sargeant Major.

Although there were temporary associations with various Legions in several locations in the interim, it wasn’t until some half century later that I began my current membership record with the organization. In the early part of this century, I joined Harry Searle Branch # 5 in my hometown of Chapleau, Ontario that was originally a British Empire Service League branch that had received its charter in 1926.

I subsequently transferred my membership to Selkirk Branch # 42 in 2006 in order to be in a better position to contribute first hand to projects and undertakings leading to the successful attainment of the aims and objectives of the Branch.
